In my latest podcast episode, I had the honour of speaking with Dr Doris Day, a leading New York City-based, board-certified dermatologist whose insights on skin health are second to none. Our connection began through my personal melanoma journey, one that took far too long to diagnose, and her guidance during that time became a turning point for me.
This conversation is about sharing knowledge to help others take action sooner.
Dr Day breaks down the differences between common skin cancers and melanoma, which, though less common, carries far more serious risks. We discuss the science behind how melanoma develops, what warning signs to look out for, and the importance of regular skin checks, especially with a trusted dermatologist who can monitor changes over time.
One standout message from Dr Day: “Nothing looks more beautiful in your fifties than sun protection in your twenties.”
We also explore why younger generations are returning to tanning culture, how social media often spreads misinformation about sun exposure, and why vitamin D can and should come from safe sources. From the long-term damage caused by childhood sunburns to the role of protective clothing, it’s a timely reminder that prevention really is everything.
Whether you're a parent, an outdoor worker, or simply haven’t thought much about sun safety since school, this is a must-listen.
My hope is that by sharing my experience and Dr Day’s expertise, it helps raise awareness, spark conversations and ultimately save lives.
